Seat Belt Tensioner: Testing and Inspection
Seat Belt Tension Reducer
Test
1. Remove the rear side trim panel.
2. Remove the middle cross member gusset.
3. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the seat belt tension reducer (B).
4. Check for voltage between the No. 1 (+) terminal and body ground with the ignition switch ON (II). There should be battery voltage.

If there is no voltage, check for:
-
a blown No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

an open in the YEL wire.
-
If there is battery voltage, go to step 5.
5. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and reconnect the 2P connector to the seat belt tension reducer.
6. Check for voltage between the No. 2 terminal and body ground with the ignition switch ON (II) and the seat belt unbuckled. There should be
battery voltage.

If there is no voltage, check for a faulty seat belt switch, short to body ground on the BLU/RED wire (driver's side) or on the BLU/WHT wire
(passenger's side), or replace the seat belt tension reducer.

If there is battery voltage, go to step 7.
7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
8. Check for continuity between the No. 2 terminal and body ground with the seat belt buckled. There should be continuity.

If there is no continuity, check for:
-
poor ground (G 551, G581).
-
an open in the wire.
-
faulty seat belt switch.
