Fuel Pressure: Testing and Inspection

Fuel Pressure Inspection 

1. Relieve fuel pressure.
2. Remove the service bolt on the fuel filter while holding the banjo bolt with another wrench. Attach the special tool.
3. Start the engine. Measure the fuel pressure with the engine idling and vacuum hose of the pressure regulator disconnected from the intake

manifold.
If the engine will not start, turn the ignition switch on, wait for two seconds, turn it off, then back on again and read the fuel pressure.

Pressure should be;

B18B1 engine:

290 - 340 kPa (2.9 - 3.4 kg/cm2, 41 - 48 psi)

B17A1 engine:

340 - 390 kPa (3.4 - 3.9 kg/cm2, 48 - 56 psi) 

4. Reconnect vacuum hose to the intake manifold.

Pressure should be;

B18B1 engine:

225 - 275 kPa (2.25 - 2.75 kg/cm2, 32 - 39 psi)

B17A1 engine:

275 - 325 kPa (2.75 - 3.25 kg/cm2, 39 - 46 psi) 

If the fuel pressure is not as specified, first check the fuel pump. If the pump is OK, check the following:

If the pressure is higher than specified, inspect for:
-

Pinched or clogged fuel return hose or piping.

Faulty pressure regulator.

If the pressure is lower than specified, inspect for:
-

Clogged fuel filter.

-

Faulty pressure regulator.

-

Leakage in the fuel line.
