Throttle Cable/Linkage: Testing and Inspection

Throttle Cable

1.

Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

2.

Check that the throttle cable operates smoothly without binding or sticking.

3.

Check cable free play at the throttle linkage.  Cable deflection should be;

0.39 - 0.47 in. (10 - 12 mm)

4.

If deflection is not within specifications, loosen the locknut and adjust as necessary.

5.

With the cable properly adjusted, check the throttle valve to be sure that it opens fully when the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor and
returns to the fully closed position when released.
