Evaporator Temperature Sensor / Switch: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The evaporator temperature sensor, located in the evaporator housing, is a temperature dependant resistor (thermistor). The resistance of the
thermistor decreases as the evaporator outlet air temperature increases.
OPERATION: AIR CONDITIONER
If the evaporator sensor temperature is over 4°C (39°F), the radiator fan control unit activates the cooling fans and sends a signal to the PGM-FI
ECU. The ECU then increases engine idle speed and energizes the A/C compressor clutch.
When the temperature at the evaporator drops below 3°C (370 F) the sensor signals the control unit to turn off the fans and compressor.
OPERATION: AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL
The temperature to resistance values are the same as in the Manual Air Conditioner system (described above). However, in the Automatic Climate
Control System, the evaporator temperature sonsor is just one of several inputs to the Climate Control Unit.
