Voltage Signal: Testing and Inspection
Vehicle Speed Signal
Legend
The signal generated by the speed pulser produces 4 pulses for each revolution of the speedometer cable and relays this information to the ECU.
1.
Drive vehicle and check that cruise control system is operating properly.
2.
If system is operating properly, proceed to next step. If not, check and, if necessary, replace speed pulser, then repeat test.
3.
Connect system checker harness between ECU and harness connector and disconnect ``B'' connector from right side wire harness.
4.
Turn ignition switch to On position, then measure voltage between terminals B16 (+) and A18 (-) of system checker harness. Voltage should be
approximately 5 volts.
5.
If voltage is as specified, proceed to next step. If voltage is not as specified, substitute a good ECU and recheck voltage. If voltage is now as
specified, replace ECU.
6.
Turn ignition switch Off, then reconnect ``B'' connector to right side wire harness.
7.
Raise and support front of vehicle, then apply parking brake and block rear wheels.
8.
Turn ignition switch to On position, slowly rotate left front wheel, then measure voltage between terminals B16 (+) and A18 (-). Voltage should
vary between 0 and 5 volts as wheel is rotated.
9.
If voltage is not as specified, repair open or short in yellow/red wire between ECU and speed pulser. If voltage is as specified, vehicle speed signal
is OK.
