Evaporator Core: Service and Repair
Automatic Climate Control
CAUTION:
-
All SRS wiring harnesses are covered with yellow outer insulation.

Before disconnecting any part of the SRS wire harness, install the short connectors.
-
Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if it has an open circuit or damage wiring.
HEATER-EVAPORATOR UNIT REPLACEMENT
1. Remove the dashboard. See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard / Instrument Panel/Service and Repair
NOTE: The L and LS model radios may have a coded theft protection circuit. Be sure to get the customer's code number before:

Disconnecting the battery.

Removing the No. 56 (7.5A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.

Removing the radio.
After service reconnect power to the radio an turn it on. When the word "CODE" is displayed, enter the customer's 5-digit code to restore radio
operation.
2. Remove the blower unit. See: Housing Assembly HVAC/Service and Repair
3. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
WARNING:
-
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot; the engine coolant is under pressure and could severely scald you.

Keep hands away from the radiator fan. The fan may start automatically without warning and run for up to 15 minutes, even after
the engine is turned off.
CAUTION: Engine coolant will damage paint. Quickly rinse any spilled engine coolant off pained surfaces.
4. Release the clamps and disconnect the heater hoses. Engine coolant will run out when the heater hoses are disconnected, drain it into a clean drip
pan.
