Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation

WARNING:  Use an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-approved vacuum cleaner to avoid breathing brake dust.

CAUTION:

-

Never use an air hose or dry brush to clean brake assemblies.

Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle; it may damage the paint. If brake fluid does contact the paint, wash it off immediately with water.

To prevent spills, cover the hose joints with rags or shop towels.

Clean all parts in brake fluid and air dry; blow out all passages with compressed air.

1. Remove the banjo bolt, and disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.
2. Remove the caliper mounting bolts, then remove the caliper.
3. Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Install brake pads.

CAUTION:  If reusing the original brake pads, always reinstall them in their original positions to prevent loss of braking efficiency.

Torque the:

caliper bracket mounting bolts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
caliper mounting bolts to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
banjo bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).

Fill the brake reservoir with clean brake fluid, and bleed the brake system.
