Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

VSA System Wheel Speed Sensor Inspection

NOTE: The outer board joint must be removed to inspect the magnetic encoder.

Front driveshaft removal.  See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Testing and Inspection

Rear driveshaft removal.  See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and
Repair/Overhaul/Rear Driveshaft Disassembly

1. Clean the magnetic encoder, and make sure no metal or other debris is stuck to the magnetic encoder surface.

2. Check the magnetic encoder (A) for damage. If cracked or damaged, replace the encoder (wheel bearing).

Replacement

Rear wheel bearing replacement.  See: Steering and Suspension/Suspension/Rear Knuckle Alignment Link/Service and Repair

3. Measure the air gap between the wheel speed sensor (B) and the magnetic encoder all the way around while rotating the encoder.
