Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Warm Up TWC Removal/Installation
FRONT
1. Remove the engine cover. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Engine/Intake Manifold/Service and Repair/Intake Manifold Removal and
Installation
2. Remove the condenser fan shroud. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Cooling System/Radiator Cooling Fan/Service and Repair
3. Remove the No. 2 ignition coil and the ignition coil heat insulator.
4. Remove the front A/F sensor (Sensor 1) See: Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen Sensor/Service and Repair/A/F Sensor Replacement and
the front secondary HO2S (Sensor 2). See: Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen Sensor/Service and Repair/Secondary HO2S Replacement
5. Remove the exhaust pipe A mounting nuts (front WU-TWC side). See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Exhaust Pipe/Service and
Repair
6. Remove the EGR pipe. See: Exhaust Gas Recirculation/EGR Tube/Service and Repair
7. Carefully remove the front WU-TWC.
8. Carefully install the front WU-TWC with a new gasket and new self-locking nuts. Tighten the nuts in a crisscross pattern in two or three steps.
9. Install the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.
REAR
1. Lift the vehicle, and support it with jackstands.

3. Remove the rear A/F sensor (Sensor 1) See: Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen Sensor/Service and Repair/A/F Sensor Replacement and the
rear secondary HO2S (Sensor 2). See: Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen Sensor/Service and Repair/Secondary HO2S Replacement
4. Remove the exhaust pipe A mounting nuts (rear WU-TWC side). See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Exhaust Pipe/Service and
