Idle Speed: Adjustments
Idle Speed Setting
Inspection/Adjustment
NOTE:

Before setting the idle speed, check the following items:

The MIL has not been reported on.

Ignition timing
-
Spark plugs
-
Air cleaner
-
PCV system
-
(Canada) Depress the parking brake pedal. Start the engine, then check that the headlights are off.
1. Connect a OBD II scan tool (See Computer/Testing) or tachometer.

Connect a tachometer to igniter unit secondary loop (white-taped).

Remove the rubber cap from the tachometer connector and connect a tachometer.
2. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
