Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
1. On models with manual transmission, remove clutch, then remove flywheel.
2. On models with automatic transmission, remove transmission, then remove driveplate.
3. Remove rear oil seal using a suitable tool.
4. Lubricate new oil seal lip, outer sealing surface and block bore with clean engine oil.

5. Install new seal using tool No. J-34686, or equivalent, Fig. 56.
6. Slide oil seal over mandrel until dust lip bottoms squarely against tool collar.
7. Align dowel pin of tool with dowel pin hole in crankshaft and attach tool to crankshaft and torque to 27-62 inch lbs.
8. Tighten T handle of tool to push oil seal into bore. Oil seal is fully seated when tool collar is flush against block.
9. Loosen tool and remove attaching screws.
10. Ensure oil seal is seated squarely.
