How to Use A Programmed Smart Cable
NOTE:

If the PCM broadcast code stored in the Smart Cable is different than the code needed by the PCM, go to How to Reprogram a Smart Cable.

If the red light (# 3) on the Smart Cable comes on or flashes at any time during the procedure, the update was not completed. Go to How to
Diagnose a Faulty Smart Cable.

Use the PGM Tester with the 5N201 or later software to check for and clear any existing ABS DTCs.

For 1996-97 SLX, go to step 4.

For 1998-99 SLX, go to step 1. *
2.
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
3.
Open the hood, and locate the Electronic Hydraulic Control Unit (EHCU) directly behind the passenger-side headlight assembly.
4.
Disconnect the EHCU connector from the EHCU by pulling out the locking slide, then pulling the base of the connector straight up.
5.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
6.
Connect the Smart Cable's large blue connector to the vehicle DLC (data link connector). Connect the other end of the Smart Cable to the DLC
port on the Smart Cable Box. The green light (# 1) on the Smart Cable flashes, then glows steadily.
NOTE:
If the yellow (# 2) and green lights flash and then glow steadily, the PCM broadcast code already matches the code in the Smart Cable. Go to step 9.
