Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair
Warm Up TWC Removal/Installation
Warm Up TWC Removal/Installation
FRONT WU-TWC (Bank 2)
1. Remove the No. 2 the ignition coil and the ignition coil heat insulator.
2. Remove the front A/F sensor (Sensor 1) See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen Sensor/Service and Repair/A/F
Sensor Replacement and the front secondary HO2S (Sensor 2) See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen
Sensor/Service and Repair/Secondary HO2S Replacement.
3. Remove exhaust pipe A See: Exhaust Pipe/Service and Repair.
4. Remove the EGR pipe See: Powertrain Management/Emission Control Systems/Exhaust Gas Recirculation/EGR Tube/Service and Repair.
5. Remove the A/C condenser fan assembly See: Cooling System/Radiator/Service and Repair/Radiator and A/C Condenser Fan, Motor, and Shroud
Removal and Installation and the radiator upper bracket/cushion See: Cooling System/Radiator/Service and Repair/Radiator Replacement.
6. Remove the front WU-TWC bracket, then carefully remove the front WU-TWC.
7. Carefully install the front WU-TWC with a new gasket and new self-locking nuts. Tighten the nuts in a crisscross pattern in two or three steps.
8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
REAR WU-TWC (Bank 1)
1. Remove the rear A/F sensor (Sensor 1) See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen Sensor/Service and Repair/A/F
Sensor Replacement and the rear secondary HO2S (Sensor 2) See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Oxygen
Sensor/Service and Repair/Secondary HO2S Replacement.
2. Remove exhaust pipe A See: Exhaust Pipe/Service and Repair.
3. Remove the intermediate shaft See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and
Repair/Removal and Replacement/Intermediate Shaft Removal.
