1.
Remove upper timing belt cover, then the cylinder head cover.
2.
On 2.3L/4-141 engines, remove upper part of intake manifold.
3.
On both engines, turn crankshaft to align TDC mark 0 with cast mark on bell housing, then loosen water pump bolts and turn pump clockwise to
loosen timing belt. Remove timing belt from camshaft sprocket.
4.
Remove camshaft sprocket, then the woodruff key from camshaft.
5.
Remove bearing caps 1 and 3, then 2 and 4 alternately and diagonally, Fig. 15.

Remove camshaft from cylinder head.
6.
Prior to installation of camshaft, observe center offset of bearing cap bores. Prior to installation, place in position and determine installed
position.
7.
Install camshaft onto cylinder head with lobes for No. 1 cylinder pointing upwards.
8.
Mount bearing caps 2 and 4 alternately and diagonally and tighten to specifications.
9.
Mount bearing caps 1 and 3 and tighten to specifications.
10.
Install woodruff key into camshaft, then mount camshaft sprocket and tighten to specifications.
11.
Install cylinder head cover, then Align mark on camshaft sprocket with upper edge of cylinder head cover gasket. Ensure TDC mark 0 is aligned
with cast mark on bell housing.
12.
Mount timing belt on camshaft sprocket, then turn water pump counterclockwise to adjust timing belt tension and tighten bolts to specifications.
13.
Check timing belt tension. It must be possible to twist belt 90° in center between camshaft and water pump sprockets.
14.
On 2.3L/4-141 engines, install upper part of intake manifold.
15.
On both engines, install upper timing belt cover.
