4000,S L4-1781cc 1.8L SOHC (MG) (1985)
When replacing camshaft, refer to Figs. 3 and 4, noting the following:
1.
Ensure that camshaft endplay does not exceed .006 inch with cam followers or hydraulic lifters removed.
2.
When removing camshaft bearing caps from 1984-87 models, first remove caps 1, 3 and 4, then loosen cap 2. When removing camshaft bearing
caps from 1988 80/90 models, first remove caps 1 and 3, then remove caps 2 and 5 alternately and diagonally
3.
When installing camshaft bearing caps, note the following:
a. Lubricate bearing surfaces and camshaft journals.

b. Install caps in proper order, observing off center position, Fig. 5.
c. On 1984-87 models, lightly and carefully tighten bearing cap 2 before installing caps 4, 1 and 3, then torque all bearing cap nuts to 14 ft.lbs.
On 1988 80/90 models, mount bearing caps 2 and 5 before caps 1 and 3. Torque all bearing cap nuts to 15 ft.lbs.
d. When installing crankshaft drive belt sprocket ensure that lug on sprocket is fitted into slot on crankshaft assembly.
