Shift Linkage: Adjustments

4 SPEED 4000 & COUPE

    Gearshift mechanism is redesigned from chassis No. 3-5 2 044 765. From chassis No. 3-5 2 044 957, some gearshift mechanism components
have been altered. New adjusting tool 3014 is required which replaces old tool 3009. New tool 3014 can be used from chassis No. 3-5 2 044 765.

1.

Place shift lever in Neutral.

2.

Loosen clamp nut.

3.

Check that shift finger slides freely on shift rod.

4.

Remove gearshift lever knob and shift boot.

5.

Align centering holes of gearshift lever housing and gearshift lever bearing housing.

6.

Install tool with locating pin toward front.

7.

Push gearshift lever into left cutout of slide.

8.

Secure tool position by tightening lower knurled screw.

9.

Move slide with gear lever to left side until it stops and tighten upper knurled screw.

10.

Push gear shift lever into right cutout of slide (3-4 position).

11.

Align shift rod/shift finger (transmission in neutral) and tighten clamp nut.

12.

Remove tool.

13.

Engage 1st gear.

14.

Press gearshift lever to left side until it stops.

15.

When gearshift lever is released, it must spring back approximately 0.2-0.4 inch. If not, correct by moving gearshift lever housing very slightly
sideways in elongated holes.

16.

Check that all gears engage easily without jamming. Check function of reverse gear stop.

5 SPEED 4000 & COUPE

1.

Place shift lever in neutral.

2.

Loosen clamp nut, then ensure that shift finger slides freely on shift rod.

3.

Remove shift lever knob and shift boot, then loosen bolts slightly.

4.

Align centering holes of gearshift lever housing and gearshift lever bearing housing, then tighten bolts.

5.

Using tool 3057 or equivalent, install tool so that locating pin is in front centering hole.

6.

Place shift lever in right cut out of slide, then tighten lower knurled nut on tool.

7.

Move slide with shift lever to right stop and tighten upper knurled nut on tool.

8.

Push shift lever into left cut out of slide.

9.

Adjust shift rod and shift finger (transmission in neutral), then tighten clamp nut.

10.

Remove tool.

11.

Engage 1st gear, press shift lever to right stop, and release lever. Lever should spring back to right.

12.

Engage 5th gear, press shift lever to right stop, and release lever. Lever should spring back to left.

13.

If lever does not spring back approximately same distance in steps 11 and 12, move shift lever housing slightly in slots sideways.

14.

Ensure that all gears engage easily without jamming.

15.

Install shift boot and shift lever knob.
