Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Rear Axle Replace

5000 MODELS EXC. 5000S QUATTRO

1.

Raise and support vehicle, then remove rear wheel and tire assemblies.

2.

Remove parking brake cable adjusting nut, Fig. 3.

Disconnect parking brake cable at coupling.

4.

Remove clip and unhook right side parking brake cable.

5.

Remove clips and unhook left side parking brake cable.

6.

Remove bracket with pressure accumulator, leaving fuel lines connected.

7.

Disconnect both brake hoses and plug lines.

8.

Remove diagonal arm.

9.

Unhook brake pressure regulator spring.

10.

Support axle with suitable jack.

11.

Remove lower shock absorber attaching bolts.

12.

Remove trailing arm bolts on both sides.

13.

Lower and remove rear axle.

14.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 

a. After placing rear axle in position, install both trailing arm bolts and tighten lightly.
b. Lift rear axle and install lower shock absorber attaching bolts.
c. Install diagonal arm, brake hoses and pressure regulator spring.
d. Bleed brake system.
e. Install parking brake cable and adjust parking brake.
f.

Tighten bolts for trailing arm and shock absorbers with wheels standing on ground.
