Internal bleed-down can cause the hydraulic system pressure to drop below 120 bar (1740 psi) after the vehicle has been parked for extended periods (for
example, overnight.).
This condition is normal and will not affect system function. However, the Auto-Check monitoring symbol may light for a few seconds after the engine is
started.
To eliminate this occurrence, a new control unit for the Auto-Check system is being installed during production as of November, 1983:
VIN 44EN055900.
In response to complaints, new control units (P/N 443 919 465E) can be installed in earlier vehicles. The following modifications must be made:
Work sequence
-
remove old control unit from vehicle
-
check control unit connector to see if terminal 25 has a wire
If No, go to A If Yes, proceed as follows:
-
remove yellow/gray wire from hydraulic pressure warning light switch on brake booster
-
locate unused wire and connector (near yellow/gray wire) taped in same wiring harness
-
check for continuity between this wire and terminal 25 of control unit connector
If No Continuity, Go to A If Continuity, proceed as follows:
-
Connect unused wire and connector to hydraulic pressure warning light switch on brake booster
-
install new control unit
Note
If no wire is connected to terminal 25 of control unit connector or there is no continuity between connector and unused wire, a new wire must be added.
Work sequence
-
crimp connector on wire and insert in control unit connector, terminal 25
-
route wire next to existing harness
-
crimp terminal to other end of wire
-
connect new wire to hydraulic pressure warning light switch on brake booster
