Wastegate: Testing and Inspection

BOOST PRESSURE, CHECKING

NOTE:  Boost pressure can be measured either while driving or on dynamometer

- 

engine oil temperature: minimum 80°C (176°F)

- 

pull ignition distributor vacuum line off intake manifold (arrow)

- 

connect pressure gauge VW 1397 with T-connection, between previously removed vacuum hose and intake manifold

- 

place pressure gauge on front passenger seat

NOTE:  Do not pinch off hose or restrict in any way when placing gauge inside vehicle.

- 

open valve on pressure gauge (arrow)

- 

run engine in second gear at 4,000 RPM (full throttle)

- 

close shut-off valve on pressure gauge (arrow)
