Camshaft: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
Remove valve cover nuts, reinforcement strips, and valve cover.
2.
Remove timing cover and timing belt.
3.
Remove camshaft sprocket attaching bolt and the camshaft sprocket.

4.
Diagonally loosen bearing caps No. 2 and No. 4, and remove. Fig. 9.
5.
Diagonally loosen bearing caps No. 1 and No. 3, and remove.
6.
Remove camshaft from cylinder head.
INSTALLATION
1.
Lubricate bearing shells, journals and contact surface of bearing caps with engine oil.
2.
Position camshaft onto bearing saddles and install new camshaft oil seal.

3.
Install bearing caps, ensure caps align correctly, Fig. 10.
4.
Lightly tighten No. 2 and No. 4 bearing caps diagonally, then torque all caps to:
15 ft. lbs.
5.
Install camshaft sprocket onto camshaft and torque attaching bolt to:
58 ft. lbs.
6.
Install timing belt, timing cover and valve cover.
