Work sequence

support hood

Strut with plastic ball socket:

-

lift retaining clip (arrow) about 4 mm with screwdriver

CAUTION

Do not take clip out of socket. Clip will be damaged if completely removed.

Strut with metal ball socket:

-

pull pin (arrow) out with pliers

Gas-filled strut, discarding

After replacing gas-filled strut, gas must be released from unserviceable unit before discarding.

Work sequence
-

put on protective goggles

-

clamp first two inches of strut cylinder in vise (X)

WARNING

Never squeeze strut in vise in area other than shown.

-

using hack saw, cut cylinder open immediately to right of vise

Note

Cover area being cut open with a rag to trap oil which will squirt out.
