1.
Connect a multi-meter between terminals 1 and ground, then between terminals 1 and 3 of the harness plug.
2.
With the ignition ON, battery voltage should be available in both cases.
3.
If voltage is not as specified, repair wiring as necessary.
4.
Connect a multi-meter between terminals 2 and 3 of the harness plug. At least 2 VDC should be available while cranking the starter.
NOTE: An LED test light (us 1115 or equivalent) could be used instead of the volt meter. The LED should flicker while cranking the starter.
a. If voltage is not within specification, check wiring between terminal 2 of the harness plug, and terminal 16 of the ignition control unit.
b. If the wiring is OK, replace the ignition control unit.
c. If the voltage is OK, test the ignition coil.
