Front End - Clunking Noise

Front End - "Clunking" Noise

80/90 M.Y. 1988-89

Cause:
Insufficient torque of subframe and control arm bolts.

Production:
Upgraded torquing procedure.

As of:  September 1988

VIN:  89_KA054524

Service:
Replace bolts and washers and retorque as necessary. Subframe hole must be free of wax.

Torque specifications:

Subframe bolts:
35 N-m (+ additional 1/4 turn).

Tighten subframe bolts in sequence
(see Workshop Manual, Section 40.2).

Control arm bolts:
65 N-m.

Tighten control arm bolts with vehicle weight on suspension, i.e. with vehicle on "drive-on" style hoist.
