Cold Start Injector: Testing and Inspection
Voltage Test

Self Constructed Led Test Light

  Note: See "COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS", "OUTPUT CODES/TESTS" for a detailed explanation of this procedure.

1.

With ignition OFF, insert fuse in top of the fuel pump relay.

2.

Switch ignition ON and remove fuse after 4 seconds (DO NOT SWITCH IGNITION OFF).

3.

Re-insert the fuse in the fuel pump relay for four seconds, then remove.

4.

Re-insert the fuse in the fuel pump relay for four seconds, then remove.

5.

Re-insert the fuse in the fuel pump relay for four seconds, then remove.

6.

Fault code indicator light should display fault 4443.

7.

With the ignition ON, close the full throttle switch. The cold start injector should switch ON and OFF (staying energized for no more than 10
seconds).

8.

If the valve does not energize:

a. Disconnect the cold start valve harness plug, and test for power by connecting LED tester (US 1115 or Fig. 14) between the terminals.  
b. With ignition ON, and the full throttle switch closed, the LED tester should light.
c. If tester lights, replace the cold start injector.
d. If tester does not light, use a voltmeter to test for voltage between terminal 1 and ground.  Battery voltage should be available.  
e. If voltage is not available, repair wiring.
f.

If voltage is OK, check resistance between terminal 2 of the harness plug, and terminal 16 of the injection control unit plug.  Resistance
should be less than 0.2 ohms.

g. If the resistance is within specification, replace the injection control unit.
