Carbon Canister Shut-Off Valve (After March 1990)

    On early 1990 models (produced before March 1990), the carbon canister shut-off valve is a normally closed, vacuum operated valve. On later
models, the valve is an electrically operated solenoid valve. Still normally closed, the valve opens when energized by the ECU approx. 5 seconds after
the engine is started, and remains open as long as the engine is running.
 
SELF DIAGNOSIS

    The ECU can recognize an open or shorted solenoid valve or circuit. The ECU can also recognize if the circuit between the ECU and the valve is open
or shorted to a battery power source.
