Removing and installing rear lid lock > < Removing and installing gas strut

1 - Bolt
q   21 Nm
2 - Nut
q   21 Nm
3 - Rear lid hinge (left-side)
  Note
Before removing, mark position of hinge on body and rear lid.
q   Removing:
–  Unscrew bolts from rear lid.
–  Lower headliner around hinge, unscrew nuts and take out hinge.
q   Installing:
–  Insert hinge according to marks and secure with nuts.
–  Position rear lid on hinge and secure with nuts.
–  Engage gas strut.
–  Carefully close rear lid.
–  Align rear lid at sides and lengthwise.
–  Tighten nuts and bolts to specified torque.

Removing cover for rear lid hinge
1 - Cover
q   Remove clip at roof and then clip at B-pillar.
q   Disengage support (top) in direction of -arrow- and pull cover over hinge.
–  To install, slide cover over hinge, engage support and press into position.
–  Secure cover with clip.

3 - Grommet
q   Press into body

   
Disengaging gas strut
–  Lift retaining springs -arrow- on gas strut -1- slightly using a small screwdriver and disengage from ball-head pin -2-

Releasing gas from gas strut
–  Clamp section -x = 50 mm- of gas strut in a vice.
  WARNING
t  Only the section indicated may be clamped in the vice (accident risk!).
t  Always wear safety goggles while sawing.
  Note
Cover area around saw cut with a cloth to catch any fluid which may escape.
–  Saw open first third of cylinder part of gas strut (measured from piston rod end of cylinder).
