Removing and installing front passenger side airbag with igniter N131
Removing and installing front passenger side airbag with igniter -N131-
Removing
  WARNING
t  Heed the safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Heed the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Heed the assignment of the airbag unit to the dash panel → Electronic parts catalogue.
–  With the ignition switched on, disconnect the battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
   
–  Remove the glove compartment → Chapter.
  WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example to unplug the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for instance by briefly grasping hold of the door striker plate.
–  Unscrew the nut -6- for the earth wire at the front passenger side airbag.
–  Unplug the connector -2-.

–  To do so, pull out -arrow- the connector locking element -1- and unplug the connector -2-.

–  Unscrew the nuts -1, 3, 4, 5-.
–  Take out the front passenger side airbag downwards.
  WARNING
Set down the airbag with the impact cushion facing upwards.
Installing
  WARNING
t  Heed the safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example to plug in the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for instance by briefly grasping hold of the door striker plate.
t  Heed the assignment of the airbag to the dash panel → Electronic parts catalogue.
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
  Note
t  Make sure the connectors are pressed on as far as they will go and are heard to engage.
t  Take care not to trap any wires.
–  Replace the dash panel after airbag triggering → Chapter.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (airbag, belt tensioner for example) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle when connecting the battery.
–  With the ignition switched on, connect the battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, the event recorder must be interrogated, erased and then interrogated again → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
Notes on installation: For example tightening torques, component replacement → Chapter.
