Removing and installing lumbar support
Removing and installing lumbar support
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Special pop rivet pliers -V.A.G 1753A-
t  Drill
t  Safety goggles
Removing
  WARNING
t  Heed the safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example to unplug the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for instance by briefly grasping hold of the door striker plate.
–  Remove the front seat → Chapter.
–  Attach the front seat to the seat repair stand -VAS 6136- → Chapter.

–  Remove the backrest cover with backrest padding:
t  Sports seat → Chapter.
t  Super sports seat → Chapter.
–  Disengage the cover -1- at the lumbar support and detach.

–  Screw out the bolts -1, 3-.
–  Press the mount -2- for the lumbar support knob inwards and detach from the backrest frame.
  WARNING
There is a risk of eye injury.
Wear safety goggles.
–  Drill out the rivet -7-.
–  Disengage the Bowden cable -6- for the backrest release mechanism at the lumbar support.
–  Swivel the lumbar support -5- forwards at the bottom, disengage at the backrest frame -4- at the top and detach.

Installing
–  Engage the lumbar support -3- at the backrest frame -5- at the top and swivel to the rear at the bottom.
–  Before securing the rivet -4-, check whether the metal washer -2- has been inserted from the front in the lumbar support.
–  Rivet the lumbar support to the backrest frame.
–  Insert the mount -1- for the lumbar support knob at the backrest frame and screw on.
–  Engage the cover at the lumbar support.
Perform further installation in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
  WARNING
t  Heed the safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example to plug in the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, for instance by briefly grasping hold of the door striker plate.
t  Heed the measures to be taken when fitting the front seat → Chapter.
Notes on installation: For example tightening torques, component replacement → Chapter.
