Brake system warning lamps
Brake system warning lamps

ItemDesignation
1ABS warning lamp -K47-
2ESP warning lamp -K155-
3Brake system warning lamp -K118-

1 - ABS warning lamp -K47-
q   Lights up for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on and goes out after the automatic ABS self-test has been completed, providing no faults have been detected in the ABS.
q   There is a malfunction of the ABS if the warning lamp:
t  does not light up when the ignition is switched on,
t  does not go out again after a few seconds,
t  lights up while the vehicle is in motion.
q   Malfunctions in the ABS system do not influence the brake system itself. However, a change in braking behaviour must be reckoned with.
If the ABS warning lamp -K47- does not go out after the ignition has been switched on and test sequence has been completed, the cause of the fault may be:
t  Voltage supply is below 10 Volt.
t  There is a fault in the ABS.
t  In the event of an ABS fault, the anti-lock brake system remains switched off, but the brake system remains fully operational.
t  Connection from dash panel insert to ABS control unit -J104- is interrupted → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
t  A speed sensor fault has occurred since the last time the vehicle was started.
t  In the event of a speed sensor fault, the ABS warning lamp -K47- will go out after the engine is restarted when road speed exceeds 2.75 km/h.
ABS warning lamp -K47- and brake system warning lamp -K118-
If the ABS warning lamp -K47--1- goes out but the brake system warning lamp -K118--3- remains on, the causes of the fault may be:
t  The handbrake is applied.
t  The brake fluid level is too low.
t  There is a fault in the activation signal for the brake system warning lamp -K118- → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
  WARNING
If the ABS warning lamp -K47- and the brake system warning lamp -K118- have lit up, it is possible that the rear wheels will lock up earlier.
2 - ESP warning lamp -K155-
q   Flashes while driving when the ESP or traction control system is taking control action
q   Lights up when the ignition is switched on and goes out after a short self-test has been completed
q   Lights up if there is a malfunction in the ESP
q   Lights up if there is a malfunction in the ABS (the ESP and ABS systems work together)
q   Lights up during automatic self-adaption of the sensor systems when:
t  the battery has been disconnected and then re-connected
t  the vehicle has been jump-started
t  the battery charge level is very low
q   The ESP warning lamp goes out after the vehicle has been driven a short distance as soon as the automatic self-adaption of the sensor system is completed
  Note
t  If the ABS warning lamp lights up together with the warning lamp for ESP/ASR (electronic stabilisation program and traction control system), this indicates a fault in the ABS and electronic differential lock.
t  The vehicle can still be braked with normal braking power, but the ABS function is not available.
3 - Brake system warning lamp -K118-
q   Lights up if the brake fluid level is too low
q   Lights up if there is a fault in the ABS system
q   Lights up if there is a fault in the electromechanical parking brake
q   Lights up if a brake pad has reached its wear limit
q   Lights up together with ABS warning lamp if ABS should fail
q   Flashes if there is a fault in the brake system
