Checking and adjusting selector lever cable
Checking and adjusting selector lever cable
Checking adjustment of selector lever cable
l  Selector mechanism checked → Chapter.
–  Keep button pressed, while pulling selector lever approx. 5 mm to the rear out of position „P“. Then keep lever in this position, do not move it into „R“.
–  Release selector lever.
l  The selector lever should spring back into position „P“ automatically.
–  If this is not the case, adjust selector lever cable → Anchor.
–  Shift selector lever into position „N“.
–  Keep button pressed, while pulling selector lever approx. 5 mm to the rear out of position „N“. Then keep lever in this position, do not move it into „D“.
–  Release selector lever.
l  The selector lever should spring back into position „N“ automatically.
–  If this is not the case, adjust selector lever cable → Anchor.
–  Keep button pressed, while pushing selector lever approx. 5 mm to the front out of position „N“. Then keep lever in this position, do not move it into „R“.
–  Release selector lever.
l  The selector lever should spring back into position „N“ automatically.
–  If this is not the case, adjust selector lever cable → Anchor.
Adjusting selector lever cable
l  Tightening torque → Fig.
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Injection and glow plug system; Rep. gr.23 or → Injection and ignition system; Rep. gr.24.
   
–  Make sure that securing clip -arrow- is pressed all the way down and properly seated.
  Note
Always renew securing clip -arrow- after removal.
–  Move selector lever from „P“ to „S“.
–  Check front protective sleeve on selector lever cable for damage.
–  Shift selector lever into position „P“.
l  The selector mechanism and selector lever cable should operate smoothly.
–  If the protective sleeve is damaged or if the selector mechanism does not move freely, the selector mechanism must be renewed → Chapter.

–  Switch off ignition.
–  Loosen bolt -arrow-.
  Note
The selector lever in the selector mechanism must remain in position „P“ when the bolt -arrow- is loosened, otherwise the adjustment will not be correct.

–  Move gearbox selector lever into position „P“ on gearbox by pushing lever towards cable support bracket -arrow-.
–  Turn both front wheels in one direction, e.g. by pushing the vehicle forwards, until the detent lever in the gearbox engages in the parking lock gear.
l  The parking lock has engaged when it is no longer possible to rotate both wheels in the same direction.
–  Carefully move selector lever forwards and backwards slightly, but without shifting to another selector lever position.
  Note
The selector lever cable is then relieved of strain.
  N34-10982
–  Tighten bolt -arrow- on selector lever cable without jerking the cable.
  Note
When tightening the bolt -arrow-, make sure the selector lever cable does not move out of position.
–  Install air cleaner housing → Injection and glow plug system; Rep. gr.23 or → Injection and ignition system; Rep. gr.24.
