Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Support clamp -VW 313-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
t  Open-end spanner insert (32 mm) -V.A.G 1332/6-
t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1275-
t  Gearbox support -T10108-

Removing
The track rods can only be removed/installed with the steering box removed.
–  Seal line connections on power steering box if not already done.
–  Clean outside of power steering box in vicinity of boot.
To remove the right track rod, the large O-type hose clip and the small hose clip on the left boot must be opened and boot must be pushed back. Counterhold at left end of steering rack to release right track rod.
–  Open large O-type hose clip and small hose clip and slide boot back.
   
–  Clamp steering box to gearbox support -T10108- and unscrew track rod -1- from steering rack -2-.
To mount steering box, use bore „5“ and matching opposite bore on gearbox support.
Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:
Tightening torque → Chapter „Power steering box - exploded view“
