Battery with „magic eye“
Battery with „magic eye“
Lead-acid batteries with „magic eye“ are filled with liquid electrolyte (wet battery). They are not fitted with sealing plugs for topping up with distilled water.
  Note
t  If batteries with „magic eye“ are fitted with sealing plugs for production reasons, these are covered with plastic foil.
t  Do not remove plastic foil and do not top up with distilled water.
t  Only perform visual inspections.

The „magic eye“-arrow- provides information on the electrolyte level and battery charge via a colour indicator. Possible indicator colours → Chapter.
  WARNING
Risk of explosion due to a discharged battery with „magic eye“.
The battery must NOT be checked or charged if the indicator of the „magic eye“ is colourless or yellow. Do NOT boost start the vehicle. There is a risk of explosion when checking or charging the battery or boost starting the vehicle. The battery must be renewed.
Enhanced battery for some vehicles with start/stop system
t  The battery is used for the special requirements that some vehicles with start/stop system have. This type of battery is marked with the letters „EFB“ on the battery cover. „EFB“ stands for »enhanced flooded battery«.
t  An „EFB“ battery may only be replaced by another „EFB“ battery.
t  The same instructions apply to „EFB“ batteries as for ordinary batteries with „magic eye“.
  Note
„EFB“ batteries have been installed in e.g. certain Audi A1 and A3 vehicles since 08.2011.
