Safety precautions when working on airbag |

| Testing, fitting and repair work is only to be performed by qualified personnel. |

| Never use test lamp, voltmeter or ohmmeter for checking. |
t
| Airbag systems are only to be checked in situ using vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051 A-. |
t
| Battery earth strap must be disconnected when working on airbag system. No waiting time is necessary after disconnecting battery. Make sure there is no-one in the vehicle when connecting the airbag system to a voltage source. |

| Airbag units are always to be installed immediately following removal from transportation container. |
t
| Return airbag unit to transportation container if work has to be interrupted. |
t
| Airbag units are never to be left unattended. |
t
| Following removal, airbag units are to be stored with cushioned side facing upwards. |
t
| Airbag components are not to be opened or repaired. Always use new parts. |
t
| Airbag units which have been dropped onto a hard surface or exhibit signs of damage are not to be re-fitted. |

| Always keep to the following sequence on replacing airbag units: |
1 - | Remove old airbag unit and set it down with cushioned side facing upwards. Heed special instructions for head airbag → Chapter. |
2 - | Remove new airbag unit from transportation container and set it down with cushioned side facing upwards. Heed special instructions for head airbag → Chapter. |
3 - | Immediately place old airbag unit in transportation container. |
4 - | Install new airbag unit in vehicle. |

| There is no longer any airbag unit replacement interval. |
t
| Airbag replacement is to be entered in Service schedule. |
t
| Observe disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter. |
t
| Never treat airbag units with grease, cleaning agents or the like or expose them to temperatures in excess of 100°C even for brief periods. |
