Removing and installing front passenger's airbag
  WARNING
Always consult current safety precautions for working on airbags → Chapter.
  Note
Establish radio code before disconnecting battery.
1 - Front passenger's airbag unit
t  Removing
–  Disconnect battery earth strap/cable.
–  Remove glove box → Chapter.
–  Unplug connector -2- → Fig.
  WARNING
Never unplug connector (2-pin, red) at front passenger's airbag unit.
–  Unscrew nut -3- (4x).
–  Take out airbag unit.
–  Set down airbag unit with impact cushion facing upwards.
t  Installing
–  Make sure connector -2- is heard to fully engage.
–  Install airbag unit.
–  Switch on ignition.
  WARNING
Make sure there is no-one in the vehicle.
–  Connect battery earth strap.
2 - Connector
3 - Nut (4x)
q   Tightening torque 9 Nm
q   Replace after airbag triggering

   
Unplugging airbag connector
–  Open flap -1- at connector -4-.
–  Press retainer tab -3- and pull out connector -2-.
  Note
t  Coil connector with slip ring is only to be removed and installed in centre position (wheels in straight-ahead position).
t  New coil connectors with slip ring are secured in centre position with a cable tie or tear-off ring.
t  ESP sensor must be calibrated on vehicles with ESP sensor in coil connector with slip ring. → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051
