Removing

• ‒ Raise vehicle.
• ‒ → Remove connector -1- from speed sensor line and speed sensor.
• ‒ Unscrew bolt -2- from wheel bearing housing.
• ‒ Remove ABS speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.

Installing

• ‒ Before inserting sensor, clean inside of hole and coat everywhere with solid lubricant paste G 000 650.
• ‒ Insert speed sensor into hole of wheel bearing housing and tighten bolt to 8 Nm.
• ‒ Connect the speed sensor to the speed sensor wire.
• ‒ Turn steering to full left lock and full right lock and check clearance of speed sensor wire.

Removing and installing front speed sensor wiring

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• ◆ VAS 1978 wiring harness repair kit

Removing

• ‒ Observe or obtain radio code on vehicles with coded radio.
• ‒ Disconnect battery.

• ‒ → Release connector from control unit (arrow -1-) and unplug it (arrow -2-).

• ‒ → Loosen cap on multi-pin connector with a screwdriver and remove.

• ‒ → Release secondary catch (violet) in direction of arrow using a small screwdriver.

→ Contact assignment of connector T25, wiring harness/control unit -J104

• ‒ → Remove the relevant contacts using a suitable extractor from wiring harness repair kit VAS 1978.
• ‒ Unplug connector from speed sensor wire and speed sensor.
• ‒ Remove defective wiring for wheel speed sensor and install new wheel speed sensor wire.
• ‒ Connect the speed sensor to the speed sensor wire.

• ‒ → Clip in speed sensor wire -arrow-.

When installing the wheel speed sensor wire, ensure it is not twisted in the wheel housing.

• ‒ → Insert the contact into the connector housing.
• ‒ Push in the individual wiring seals to the stop using an installing tool from VAS 1978.
• ‒ Secure the contacts with the secondary catch, and fit cap of multi-pin connector.
