Removing and installing piston for front brake caliper

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ 3409 Assembly wedge
  • ◆ Piston resetting tool

Removing

 
N47-0096
  • ‒ → Press piston out of brake caliper housing using compressed air.

Place a piece of wood in the recess to prevent damaging the piston.

  • ‒ → Remove sealing ring using assembly wedge 3409.

Ensure that the surface of the cylinder is not damaged during removal.

Installing

  • ‒ The surface of the piston and sealing ring should be cleaned using only methylated spirits and then dried.
  • ‒ Thinly coat piston and sealing ring with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before inserting.

  • ‒ Insert the O-ring into the brake caliper housing
  • ‒ → Place protective cap with the outer sealing lip on the piston.
 
N47-0059
  • ‒ → Using assembly wedge 3409, insert the inner sealing lip into the groove on the cylinder.

At the same time, hold piston in front of brake caliper housing.

  • ‒ → Press the piston into the brake caliper housing using a piston resetting tool.

The outer sealing lip of the protective cap will then locate in the groove on the piston.
