Removing and installing operating and display unit for air conditioner/ClimatronicE87
Removing and installing operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-
–  Removing and installing operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- → Chapter.
  Note
t  Note the precise assignment when replacing an operating and display unit: → Parts List
t  Vehicles with and without a radio/navigation system (or radio with large control panel), with and without switches for heated seats (e.g. index “without”, “A”, “B” or “C”) feature different versions of the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-. → Parts List
t  Only a operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- with a part number starting from index “D” can be installed in vehicles from model year 2002 onwards (different trim panel surface, adapted to the radios installed as of model year 2002). → Parts List
t  If an operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- with a part number up to index “C” is installed in vehicles built from 2002 onwards, then this may lead to problems with the data transfer on the convenience data bus.
t  Vehicles with a 1.6 l petrol direct injection engine (FSI) may only have an operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- with a part number starting from index “D” and the hardware/software version “XX12” installed.
t  If the coolant temperature is low in vehicles with a 1.6 l petrol direct injection engine, a signal is transmitted from the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- via the data bus system to the engine control unit (but only if heating output is requested by the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-). This signal is used to change the mixture formation of the engine control unit in order to achieve better heating of the coolant. This signal is not transmitted by an operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- up to hardware / software version “XX11”. → Relevant Workshop Manual, Injection and Ignition system
t  Following installation, perform air conditioning basic setting in the specified manner → Chapter.
t  If a new operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- is installed without the basic settings being performed, the air conditioning compressor regulating valve -N280- will not be activated, and the shutoff condition “6” is displayed in measured value block “002” during air conditioner self-diagnosis.
t  The functions selected are indicated by LEDs lighting up in the various operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- buttons.
t  The temperature sensor control panel -G56- and the switch for the rear windscreen heating are integrated into this version of the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-. The blower for the temperature sensor -V42- is installed and can be replaced individually.
t  The following steps are essential after replacing the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87-:
t  Perform basic setting → Chapter.
t  Interrogate fault memory → Chapter.
t  The display panel for the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- can be switched from °C to °F, and vice versa, by pressing the “Temperature +” button while the “Recirculated air button” is pressed.
t  If an operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- is replaced, the display for the operating and display unit for air conditioner/Climatronic -E87- appears in °F in vehicles in which the assignment of the ignition key is transmitted by the control unit in the dash panel insert -J285-. With these vehicles, the temperature display can be switched from °F to °C by pressing the “Temperature +” button while the “Recirculated air button” is pressed. Each ignition key must be converted individually (as all ignition keys are not generally available in the workshop, the customer must be instructed as to how to perform the conversion).
