Test requirements:
Test requirements:
All fuses OK in accordance with current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
–  Switch off the ignition.
   
–  Remove the electronics from the heating controls -A- → Chapter
–  Switch on the ignition.
–  Measure the voltage at connector -B- between contacts “1” and “2”.
t  Specification: approx. battery voltage
–  Switch off the ignition.
–  Attach all the connectors, except the connector for the heated rear window (contacts “1” and “2”) to the heater control electronics.

–  Use adapter leads from the adapter set -V.A.G 1594C- to connect both the contacts (“1” and “2”) of the connector for the heated rear window to the heater control electronics.
–  Guide one of the two adapter leads through the 50A current probe -VAS 5051/9-.
–  Set the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- to “multimeter measuring: 50A current probe” mode.
–  Start the engine.
  Note
t  The cut-in time for the heated rear window is limited to approx. 15 minutes by the electronics in the heater controls -A-.
t  Stray current may cause a low current reading on the current probe with the heated rear window switched off.
t  The selected “heated rear window on” function is cancelled when the ignition is switched off.

–  Switch on the heated rear window on the heater control electronics by pressing button -A- (the warning lamp in the button lights up).
t  Specification: display changes from approx. 0 A to less than 25 A
–  Wait for approx. 15 minutes
t  Specification: the display changes from less than 25 A to approx. 0 A (the warning lamp in the button goes out)
  Note
t  The control unit switches off the heated rear window after a heating period of approx. 15 minutes, and the cut-in warning lamp in switch -A- goes out.
t  If the voltage at the heater controls drops below 9 V, the heated rear window is switched off (the LED in the button goes out) until the voltage is higher than 10 V.
