Locating faults in convenience data bus
–  With the ignition off, connect the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- via the diagnostic cable -VAS 5051/5A-, for example, to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle → Chapter.
–  Switch on the ignition.
–  Select function “00 - Interrogate fault memory - Total system”.
   
Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:
All the address words stored in the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- are now transmitted in succession to the vehicle via the signal wire

Indicated on the display of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-:
t  Display zone -1- shows the address word which is currently being transmitted by the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-.
t  The control units that have responded are displayed in display zone -2-. The number and type of the faults stored in this control unit are also displayed.
–  Wait until “Function completed” appears in display zone -1-.
  Note
t  If a different or additional fault has been stored in a control unit with which the other control units cannot exchange data, then this fault must be rectified before checking the data bus wiring system.
t  If there is a fault in a control unit, problems may be encountered with data exchange with other control units although the fault does not directly affect the data bus system.
t  Check the part no. and corresponding index of the control unit with which there is no communication. → Parts List
