Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Multi-purpose tool -VW 771- with -VW 771/37-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
t  Thrust piece -3413- for oil seal (right-side)
t  Drift -3106- for oil seal (left-side)
t  Removal tool -2054- for oil seal (left-side)
t  Counterhold tool -3435- for oil seal (left-side)

   
t  Hexagon key -V.A.G 1669- for oil seal (left-side)

t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782-

Procedure
l  Gearbox in vehicle
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
–  Remove the drive shafts → Rep. gr.40.
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.
–  Remove flange shaft.
–  Remove flange shaft together with springs, thrust washers and tapered rings
  N34-1105
–  Pull out oil seal.
  V34-1414
–  Using drift -3106-, drive in new oil seal as far as stop, taking care to keep seal straight.
  Note
The illustration shows the oil seal on the left side.
–  Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
–  Fit the springs, thrust washers, tapered rings and flange shafts. Pay attention to the distinguishing features of the flange shafts → Fig..
–  Install drive shafts → Rep. gr.40.
–  Check gear oil level and top up as required → Chapter.
