Adjusting selector finger and selector sleeve   Note t  Adjustment is required if the following components have been renewed: t  Selector finger, selector sleeve, clutch housing, gearbox housing, selector shaft or locking element for selector shaft. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Universal dial gauge bracket -VW 387-

t  Clamping tool -VW 709-

t  Adjusting tool -3154-

t  Dial gauge -VAS 6079-

Procedure l  Tightening torque → Chapter –  Position the adjustment device -3154- with dowel sleeves on the gearbox housing. –  Attach the universal dial gauge holder -VW 387- with dial gauge -VAS 6079- and dial gauge extension. –  Position the dial gauge with 1 mm preload on the selector rod for reverse gear. –  Press the selector rod from above -arrow- and set the dial gauge to „0“. –  Press the selector rod from underneath against the dial gauge and read off the measured value. l  Measurement in following example: 0.70 mm. –  Lock the selector rod in the centre position. To do so, press the selector rod from underneath until a value of 0.35 mm is attained and then secure the selector rod with the bolt -1-.

–  Pull the selector finger with the clamping tool -VW 709- into the reverse gear gate and fit the measurement attachment -3154/1-.

–  Move the measurement attachment from stop to stop and read the value off the scale. l  Measurement in following example: 0.60 mm. –  Halve the measured value and tighten the bolt -3-. l  Measurement in following example: 0.60 mm : 2 = 0.30 mm –  Detach the universal dial gauge holder -VW 387-.

–  Slacken off the clamping bolt -arrow- until the selector sleeve can be moved freely on the selector shaft. –  Set the selector shaft to the centre detent.

–  Insert the dowel sleeves in the clutch housing, turn the adjustment device -3154- through 180° and position it on the clutch housing such that the selector finger and selector sleeve are aligned. –  Tighten clamping bolt for selector sleeve.
