Removing and installing radiator Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

t  Drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208- Removing –  Remove bonnet → Chapter.   Note

Collect drained coolant in a clean container for re-use or disposal.   WARNING Hot steam or hot coolant can escape when expansion tank is opened; cover filler cap with cloth and open carefully. –  Open filler cap -arrow- on coolant expansion tank.

–  Remove noise insulation -arrows-. –  Remove bumper cover → Rep. Gr.63.

–  Place drip tray for workshop hoist -VAS 6208- under engine. –  Disconnect coolant hose (bottom) at radiator -arrow- and drain off coolant.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at radiator fan thermal switch -F18-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at radiator fan -V7-.

–  Take off engine cover panel -arrows-. –  Remove noise insulation located below (detach crankcase breather hose).

–  Detach coolant hose (top left) from radiator at the location indicated -2-.   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Pull oil dipstick out of guide tube. –  Remove guide tube -1- for oil dipstick. –  Pull oil filler pipe -2- off oil filler reservoir.

–  Move oil filler neck past stop to right side of vehicle -arrow-. –  Lift off oil filler neck.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-. –  Remove oil filler reservoir from lock carrier.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows- at front of lock carrier.

–  Remove bolts -1-, -2-, -4- and -6- on reverse side of lock carrier.   Note Disregard items marked -3- and -5-. –  Slightly lift radiator and remove from below together with radiator fan. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following: –  Install bumper cover → Rep. Gr.63. –  Fill cooling system → Anchor. Tightening torques
