Checking vacuum actuation at turbocharger > < Checking charge pressure

Checking linkage and vacuum unit for charge pressure control
Problems with linkage/vacuum unit for charge pressure control result in the following faults:
t  Not achieving the specified charge pressure values.
t  Loss of power.
t  Uneven power delivery at part throttle
t  Jolts when throttle is opened or closed.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hand-operated vacuum pump with accessories -V.A.G 1390-

Procedure
–  Disconnect hose going to vacuum unit for charge pressure control at separating point.
–  Connect hand-operated vacuum pump -V.A.G 1390- to vacuum hose.

–  Use hand-operated vacuum pump to generate a vacuum and watch the movements of the turbocharger linkage:
l  Linkage should move towards vacuum unit.
–  Vent hand-operated vacuum pump.
l  Linkage should move away from vacuum unit.
  Note
Observe the movement of the linkage over the complete range of travel. It should move steadily and smoothly.
If the linkage does not move or moves jerkily:
–  Renew turbocharger → Chapter.
