Removing and installing exhaust gas recirculation valveN18 with exhaust gas recirculation potentiometerG212
Removing and installing exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- with exhaust gas recirculation potentiometer -G212-
   
Removing
–  Remove wiper arm → Rep. gr.92.
–  Detach bonnet → Chapter.
–  Disconnect washer fluid hose -3-.
–  If fitted, unplug electrical connectors -4- and -5- for heated washer jets.
–  Use hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921- to loosen hose clip -6- and detach water drain hose from cowl panel grille.
–  Detach seal -1- for cowl panel grille.
  Caution
Risk of damage to cowl panel grille.
To avoid cracking the cowl panel grille -2- during removal, apply a small amount of soap solution to the joint between the windscreen and the cowl panel grille and pull the grille vertically up out of the fastening strip, starting from the edge of the windscreen.
–  Detach cowl panel grille -2-.
–  Move washer fluid hose clear.

–  Remove nuts and bolts -arrows-.
–  Pull fresh air duct forwards and remove by turning it to right side of vehicle.

–  Press release tabs and detach resonator from air hose -arrow 1-.
–  Use hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921- to loosen spring-type hose clips -arrows 2- and detach air duct.

–  Detach non-return valve -1- from oil filler neck -2--arrow A- and move to one side.
  Note
Disregard -arrows B, C-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -2- from air mass meter -G70-.
–  Release clamp -arrow- and detach connection -1- with air mass meter -G70-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -3-.
–  Remove bolts -arrows- and move throttle valve module -J338- clear to one side (coolant hoses -1- and -2- remain connected)

–  Remove bolts -arrows- for exhaust gas recirculation pipe.

–  Disconnect hose -2- from activated charcoal filter.
–  Remove bolts -arrows- and detach intake manifold support -3-.
–  Unplug connector -4- and detach exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- with exhaust gas recirculation potentiometer -G212-.
Installing
l  Tightening torque → Chapter
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  Renew seals and/or gaskets.
t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.
–  Install throttle valve module -J338- → Rep. gr.24.
–  Install fresh air duct → Rep. gr.80.
