Installing > < Removing and installing wheel bearing/hub unit (1.2 TDI running gear)
Removing
Removing
–  Raise vehicle.
–  Remove wheel.
   
–  Back off brake.
–  To do this, insert a screwdriver through a hole in the brake drum and push the wedge upwards.
–  Unscrew cross-head screw for brake drum and remove brake drum.

–  Tap gently on claw of hub grease cap puller -VW 637/2- to release dust cap from its seat.

–  Pry off dust cap.
–  Unscrew twelve-point nut.
–  Pull wheel bearing/hub unit off stub axle.
If the wheel bearing/hub unit cannot be pulled off by hand, proceed as follows.

–  Apply puller as shown in illustration.
A - Puller, e.g. -Kukko 20/2- (commercial type)
–  Pull wheel bearing/hub unit off stub axle.
  A42-0410
–  Pull inner bearing race off stub axle.
A - Puller with leg clamp, e.g. -Kukko 204-2- (commercial type)
