Checking steering system for leaks |
Note! The power steering system must be checked for leaks after assembly operations and in the case of hydraulic fluid loss in the reservoir. |
–
| Remove front left wheel. |
–
| Start engine; run at idling speed. |
–
| Turn steering wheel to full lock in both directions and hold for a maximum of 5 ... 10 seconds. This builds up the maximum possible pressure. |
–
| Check expansion hose and return line for leaks. If leaks are found, renew the affected hose or pipe. |
–
| Check all pipe and hose connections for firm seating and for leaks. If leaks are found, re-tighten pipe or hose connection to the permissible tightening torque or renew pipe, hose or seal. |
–
| Check motor/pump unit for leaks. Renew motor/pump unit if leaks are found. |
–
| Check hydraulic fluid reservoir for leaks. Renew motor/pump unit if leaks are found. |
–
| Check hydraulic fluid level and top up if necessary → Chapter. |
Note! If repeated loss of hydraulic fluid in the motor/pump unit reservoir occurs and extensive tests have been performed several times on the pipes and hoses and their connections and on the motor/pump unit including reservoir, it will then be necessary to remove and check the power steering box. |
