▪ Ignition off
Unplug connector 1 from control unit -J500
▪ Ignition on
Check power supply (term. 30) at connector between contacts 1 and 2

Power supply for power steering control unit -J500 (term. 15)

▪ Ignition off
Unplug connector 2 from control unit -J500
▪ Ignition on
Check power supply (term. 15) at connector between contact 4 and earth

Unplug connector 3 from control unit -J500
▪ Ignition on
Check power supply at connector at control unit -J500 between contacts 1 and 2

Wiring

▪ Ignition off
▪ Select resistance measuring range
▪ (200 ω)

max.1.5 ω

- Unplug connector at control unit -J500
Check for open circuit or short to earth/positive in wiring

Function of Servotronic warning lamp -K92

▪ Fault memory interrogated and no fault stored in fault memory of power steering control unit -J500
▪ Check fuse Si 38
▪ Check fuse Si C

- Servotronic warning lamp lights

Data bus wires

▪ Ignition off
▪ Select 200 ω measuring range
Unplug multi-pin connectors from control units linked to data bus (connection in dash panel wiring harness, contacts 19 and 20)

Check wiring from contact 19/dash panel to contact 1/steering angle sender

▪ Select 20 M ω measuring range
Take out fuse S 40
Check for short to positive/earth in wiring

Use current flow diagram to repair wiring

Current at motor pump assembly

▪ Ignition off
▪ Connect 50A current probe of V.A.S. 5051 to connector 2, contact 1
Start engine
Turn steering wheel as far as left lock
Turn steering wheel as far as right lock









2 A - 42 A

- Perform hydraulic check on motor pump assembly
=> Running Gear; Front-wheel drive
Replace entire motor pump assembly
=> Running Gear; Front-wheel drive
