Removing and installing selector housing/selector rod Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1275- Removing

–  Carefully pry gear lever boot off centre console -arrows-. –  Pull gear lever boot off centre console towards rear.

–  Destroy clip -arrow- and pull off gear knob together with boot. –  Remove rubber cover, if fitted.

–  Now remove securing nuts for selector housing -arrows-.

–  Disconnect front exhaust pipe -A- → Rep. Gr.26. –  Remove cross member -B- below exhaust system. –  Remove heat shield -D-. –  Detach front section of heat shield -C-.

–  Loosen clamp -arrow-. Detach connection between selector rod and gate selector lever. –  Unbolt selector housing from body. –  Pivot selector housing with selector rod downwards and remove. Installing Installation is carried out in reverse sequence; note the following: –  Align selector housing parallel to body. l  Distance to body must then be the same on both sides. –  Fit gear knob onto gear lever with new clip and tighten clip using hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1275-. Tightening torques

Selector housing to body Bolt M8		25 Nm
Selector housing to body Nut M8		25 Nm
Cross member to body		25 Nm
Selector rod to gate selector lever		20 Nm
