Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ V.A.G. 1869 Brake filling and bleeding unit

Notes:

  • ◆ When performing the following steps, make sure that no brake fluid escapes onto the gearbox.
  • ◆ The clutch system must be bled after performing work on hydraulic clutch mechanism.
  • ◆ Top-up brake fluid reservoir to "max." marking with brake fluid before bleeding clutch system.
  • ‒ Brake fluid specifications.

=> Running gear; Repair group 47; Bleeding brake system

Work sequence

  • ‒ Pull clutch pedal back to its normal position.
  • ‒ To bleed system use bleed hose V.A.G 1238/B 3 - 670 mm long, if necessary.
  • ‒ Connect bleed hose to brake bleeding appliance collector bottle.

  • ‒ → Connect bleed hose V.A.G 1238/B3 to bleed valve -arrow-.

Note:

Ensure bleeder hose is correctly fitted during bleeding operation.

  • ‒ Switch on bleeder appliance.
    • ‒ Working pressure 2.0 bar

  • ‒ → Open the bleed valve -arrow-.
  • ‒ Bleed off about 100 cm3 of brake fluid.
  • ‒ Close bleed valve.
  • ‒ Rapidly operate pedal from stop to stop 15 times.
  • ‒ Bleed off an additional 50 cm3 of brake fluid.
  • ‒ Close bleeder screw. Tightening torque: 4.5 Nm
  • ‒ Remove filling appliance from brake fluid reservoir.
  • ‒ Depress clutch pedal several times after completion of bleeding process.
  • ‒ Bleed system again if necessary.
