Procedure
l  Engine not running.
–  Fill ATF filling unit -V.A.G 1924- with ATF for automatic gearbox 09A.
l  ATF specifications → Electronic parts catalogue.
  WARNING
The ATF filling unit must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with other types of ATF!
  Note
t  Observe relevant disposal regulations.
t  The engine must not be started and vehicle must not be towed without ATF in gearbox.

–  Remove centre noise insulation (loosen fasteners -arrows-).

Draining ATF
–  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- below gearbox.
  WARNING
Wear safety goggles.
–  Remove drain plug -arrow- in gearbox housing.
–  Drain ATF.
–  Fit drain plug with new seal and tighten to 45 Nm.

–  Secure reservoir for ATF filling unit -V.A.G 1924- as high as possible on vehicle.
  WARNING
When working close to the radiator always maintain a safe distance from the fan - danger of injury!
Fan may switch on automatically.
  N37-0814
–  Use screwdriver to prise off cap -arrow- securing sealing plug. The locking tabs on the cap will be destroyed, so the cap must always be renewed.
–  Detach sealing plug from filler pipe and attach pipe of ATF filling unit -V.A.G 1924- to filler pipe.

–  Use ATF filling unit -V.A.G 1924- to fill gearbox with approx. 2.5 litres of ATF.
–  Then start engine and shift through all selector lever positions once with vehicle stationary.
–  Then check and top up ATF level → Chapter.
